Mirkheim ends on Hermes, David Falkayn's home planet, but we know that David and his family will not settle there. We read about his grandson, Nat, on Avalon in "Wingless" and about a direct descendant, Tabitha, also on Avalon, in The People Of The Wind. But we can also read more about Hermes in A Stone In Heaven. See Hermes In The Empire. In particular, another family, the Runebergs, does stay on Hermes.
Thus, it seems that every option is covered. The Technic History, like real history, comprises parallel and intersecting narratives. After Mirkheim, we can follow the Falkayn thread, the Hermetian thread or the theme of the dissolution of the Polesotechnic League - and its aftermath.

Kaor, Paul!
I was a bit sorry to find out in A STONE IN HEAVEN that the dukes of Hermes were no longer descendants of the Tamarins. But we are not told how (perhaps during the Troubles?) how that family came to lose the grand duchy.
