Eyath, Arinnian And Tabitha

For all his flaunted Ythrianity, Arinnian oppresses Eyath with human prejudices when he sees her as sullied after Draun has had forcible sex with her in circumstances that Ythrians regard as regrettable but not as rape. Grieving, she is temporarily in heat and Draun chances by - except that he didn't "chance." He claims that his behavior is human-influenced. Tabitha Falkayn is able to put Arinnian right about Eyath.

Chris/Arinnian and Tabitha are united in a scene that is both Avalonian and multi-sensory:

"Chris and Tabby landed in a sunset whose red and gold ran berserk above a quiet sea."
-Poul Anderson, The People Of The Wind IN Anderson, Rise Of The Terran Empire (Riverdale, NY, 2011), pp. 437-666 AT Chapter XIX, p. 660 -

grass, trefoil and sword-of-sorrow fall steeply down to the immense, glimmering sea;
on the horizon, the sky deepens from violet to black;
there is an evening star among the constellations;
darkling forest is sweet from odors of pine;
the warm breeze makes harp vines ring and brightens the jewelleafs.

Colors, odors, warmth and ringing: four senses.

Kaor, Paul!

I dunno, what Draun did to Eyath, including how he physically abused her, certainly looks like rape to me. Esp. since it was plain Draun had deliberately sought out Eyath.

Sean,
It certainly looks like rape to us but Ythrians see it differently. The deliberately seeking her out was volitional and was not a usual Ythrian response.

But that deliberate, volitional seeking out of Eyath by Draun, strengthens my view that what he did to her was the crime of rape.

Sean,
I agree but the Ythrians would need to be persuaded to change choth law to take account of this.

True. And not just one choth, but every other choth on Avalon. Perhaps choth law might eventually be modified in this direction because of the human influence.
