Ensign Flandry, CHAPTER FOUR.
At last, after Hauksberg on Terra, Abrams at Highport and Brechdan on Merseia, we come to:
"Ensign Dominic Flandry, Imperial Naval Flight Corps..." (p. 29)
- on a merchant ship of the Sisterhood of Kursoviki. Unlike Abrams, we had not really thought that this Flandry was dead because we could see the title of the novel and indeed the titles of The Technic Civilization Saga, Volumes IV-VII. However, I do not think that it would be legitimate to change the titles simply in order to conceal from prospective readers this one individual's survival into old age and Admiralty. Volume IV, Flandry's Legacy, collects:
the last novel with Flandry as central character;
one novel about his daughter with three cameo appearances by Flandry;
four instalments set centuries, then millennia, later when Flandry's name is not mentioned although his legacy remains.
And that is the end of the Technic History, unfortunately.

Kaor, Paul!
Still, you raised an interesting point, it might have been better if Anderson had chosen a more ambiguous title for ENSIGN FLANDRY.
Ad astra! Sean
Maybe THE KID MAKES IT, REALLY?
Kaor, Mr. Stirling!
Ha! Amusing, if not quite what I had in mind!
