Sheldon Wyler to David Falkayn:
"'You don't expect they'll let you go till the war's over, do you? Or don't you know? The main fleet of Babur is off to grab Mirkheim. And scoutboats have reported human ships on their way there.'"
-Mirkheim, V, p. 95.
Christopher Holm hears:
"A recording played, over and over, a man's voice high-pitched and his face stretched out of shape: '- war declared. A courier from Ythri has delivered the news in Gray, Terra has served notice of war.'"
-The People of the Wind, VI, p. 511.
Dominic Flandry:
"...Asieneuve was within two hours of her goal before she got the news. Fleet Admiral Hugh McCormac had escaped to the Virgilian System. There he had raised the banner of rebellion and proclaimed himself Emperor. An unspecified number of planets had declared for him. So had an unspecified proportion of the ships and men he formerly commanded. Armed clashes had taken place and full civil war looked inevitable.'"
-The Rebel Worlds, CHAPTER THREE, p. 399.
Diana Crowfeather hears:
"...Admiral Sir Olaf Magnusson had bowed to the unanimous appeal of his valiant legionaries, that he take leadership of the Terran Empire...
"...there was nothing to fear, rather there was everything to await, a dawn of hope. In six hours the new Emperor would broadcast, explaining, reassuring, arousing his people. 'Stand by. The Divine, in whatever form It manifests Itself to you, the Divine is with us.'"
-The Game of Empire, CHAPTER FIVE, p. 261.
(The Divine is with us but Magnusson's Merseian concept of It sure isn't.)

Kaor, Paul!
And Magnusson was speaking with a forked tongue, it was only the Merseian concept of "the God" which he had in mind!
Ad astra! Sean
