"Death And The Knight"

"Death and the Knight."

This story is divided into just four sections, headed:

PARIS, TUESDAY, 10 OCTOBER 1307
SAN FRANCISCO, THURSDAY, 8 MARCH 1990
HARFLEUR, WEDNESDAY, 11 OCTOBER 1307
PARIS, WEDNESDAY, 11 OCTOBER 1307

In 1307, there is a problem.
In 1990, Everard is informed of the problem.
In 1307, he prepares to address the problem.
In 1307, he addresses it.

The action in 1307 is over on the second day.

Headings in Time Patrol narratives had become increasingly precise. If the series had continued, would the headings have continued to specify place, day of the week etc? For time travellers, such precision would have been appropriate from the very beginning of the series. A Time Patrol agent needs to know, "If I perform any actions on 11 October 1307, will they adversely affect any actions that I have already performed at later dates?"
