Adaptations

When we say that we would like to see a particular sf series, e.g., Poul Anderson's Technic History, dramatized on screen, what we mean is that we want to see an authentic, accurate, appropriate adaptation of the already familiar narrative. We want to see and hear what we have already read and imagined. What has been narrated should now be enacted. Also, every actor should both look the part and be able to act the part. 

We do not want to see either a completely different story with the same title or a story that is recognizably derived from the original but that nevertheless is not the same story, especially not if it is also inferior. I do not want to see the Technic History treated in the way that Netflix is now treating Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. Librarian Lucien becomes Librarian Lucienne. Whereas Johanna Constantine (1760-1859) was an ancestress of John Constantine (living now), Netflix has Johanna Constantine living now!

We do not want to see Nicola van Rijn, Davina Falkayn or Dominique Flandry - at least not if we were expecting Nicholas, David and Dominic.
