Peace, Prosperity And A Widened World

In Three Empires, I summarized the Roman Empire as "conquest" and "slavery." Sean Brooks cited Poul Anderson's "Star of the Sea" as presenting a broader view of Roman civilization. Blog readers may be interested in that broader view as quoted in some earlier posts:

Sleet, Rain, Wind And Cold
The Roman Empire And The United States
Naked Survival

The second and third of these posts involve comparisons with SM Stirling's Emberverse series.

And now I might return to Anderson's Operation Chaos which, like most Anderson texts, is proving to be far richer than anyone who has just read it once probably imagines.

Kaor, Paul!

Exactly, there was more to the Romans than what their many vices might lead some to conclude.

And I'm trying to look out for and pay attention to those golden nuggets to be found in OPERATION CHAOS.

Ad astra! Sean
