Virgin Planet, CHAPTER I.
Women who have been isolated for many generations on an extra-solar planet know that there are male human beings and non-human beings, "Men" and "Monsters," among the stars. What would a "Man" look like to a woman who had never seen one?
The broad shoulders look OK;
the hips are grotesquely narrow;
the yellow hair is cropped short;
(the hair is the wrong color on this cover);
the lean face has too much nose and chin;
too much bone;
too little flesh.
"Father! Maybe it was a Monster!" (p. 13)
Old stories say that Monsters have many shapes, including some that look like deformed human beings - like this one!
Davis Bertram is in for an adventure.

Kaor, Paul!
I had to laugh when I read this blog piece! It reminded me of how much I was amused by Corporal Maiden Barbara Whitley's bewildered reaction to her first sight of a Man (or Monster). And of how poor Davis Bertram's high flying expectations were dashed.
Ad astra! Sean
