Supernova Ships And The Milky Way

Conceptually, Poul Anderson's early "Flight to Forever" (1950) connects with both his Time Patrol series and his Technic History because it involves both technological time travel and a miniature future history with a multi-species interstellar empire.

The Galactic Empire has a "Supernova" class of faster than light interstellar warships as has the Terran Empire in the Technic History. See Terran Naval Craft.

Thirdly, another old friend is present:

"Space glittered and flared with a million stars, thronging against the tremendous dark, the Milky Way foamed around the sky in a rush of cold silver, and it was shattering to a human in its utter immensity."
-Poul Anderson, "Flight to Forever" IN Anderson, Past Times (New York, 1984), pp. 207-288 AT Chapter Five, p. 265.

Kaor, Paul!

And I still remember how, during my visits to Hawaii, how bright and thronged with stars were the often cloudless nights were. I even noticed the "curdled silver" of the Milky Way.
