"Judge Not"

"Judge not, that ye be not judged." See here.

Dominic Flandry says that he and Chives will:

"'...pass no judgment, lest we be judged by ourselves.'"
-Poul Anderson, A Knight Of Ghosts And Shadows IN Anderson, Sir Dominic Flandry: The Last Knight Of Terra (Riverdale, NY, 2012), pp. 339-606 AT XII, p. 488.

Wondering whether he meant, "...be judged ourselves...," I checked Poul Anderson, A Knight Of Ghosts And Shadows (London, 1978), Chapter Twelve, p. 126, but that also says "...by ourselves." So what did Flandry mean?

Kaor, Paul!

Yet another of the "small fascinating details" to be found in the works of Anderson. Here it's plain the agnostic Flandry had read the Bible, Matthew's Gospel (see as well Chapter I of A CIRCUS OF HELLS, where Flandry was intrigued by door "666").

As for what Flandry meant, I think as someone who doubted God existed, he would logically think only we could judge ourselves.
