Some Parallels

Sometimes the blog focuses on the details of a single fictional timeline whereas, at other times, it broadens out to compare several parallel future histories. Thus, discussion of space sectors in the Terran Empire of the Technic History led to discussion of the Sirian Sector in both the Psychotechnic History and "Flight to Forever."

In the future history of "Flight to Forever," there are at least two Galactic Empires. The First Empire, if not also the Second, has a Space Navy and therefore would also have an Intelligence Corps with agents like Dominic Flandry.

In the timeline of "Flight to Forever," time travel is possible for about seventy years into the past and indefinitely into the future. Therefore, some civilizations might have a Time Patrol to prevent:

attempts to change recent history;

incidents like the Time War when a defeated army attempted to conquer the world a century later.

"Flight to Forever" combines pulp sf with Wellsian themes and with some elegiac passages: see "Flight to Forever," here.

Kaor, Paul!

I would expect any interstellar domain, whatever form it took, to have space navies. The need for defense against barbarian attacks or fending off aggression from civilized foes would remain the same for a Terran Confederation or Solarian Commonwealth as for the Terran Empire.

And I like the SUPER SCIENCE STORIES cover for "Flight to Forever"!
