Alpha Crucis.

I'm surprised you thought it surprising that the defense of the industrialized rogue planet Satan was a major reason why the Empire expanded to include what became Sector Alpha Crucis. The products manufactured on Satan would be necessary for an interstellar civilization with FTL ships. So it made perfect sense for the Empire get control of Satan.

Satan is near Beta Crucis.
Beta Crucis is in Sector Alpha Crucis.
So Satan is a reason for establishing the Sector.
An implication that I had not realized before.
