In Poul and Karen Anderson's The King of Ys, the Ysan Sea God, Lir, is not anthropomorphic, would certainly be manifested through the kraken and might even be kraken-like in form.
In Poul Anderson's The Merman's Children, mermen fight a kraken.
In Anderson's Technic History, a colonized planet is called Kraken and large marine animals on both Avalon and Nyanza are called "krakens."
Words and names preserve myths.

Kaor, Paul!
What little we know about the planet Kraken makes me it was largely colonized by Scandinavians, esp. people from Norway and Iceland. The pretender (and secret Merseian agent) Olaf Magnusson was from Kraken, btw. I also got the impression that most people on Kraken were stoutly pro Imperial and loyal to the Empire.
