"Despite everything, [Flandry's] pulse accelerated when Port Frederiksen appeared. Here was his destiny."
-Poul Anderson, The Rebel Worlds IN Anderson, Young Flandry (Riverdale, NY, 2010), pp. 367-520 AT Chapter Thirteen, p. 491.
"Hugh McCormac had left this prized outpost a hyperdrive warship. She wasn't big - a Conqueror-class subdestroyer..."
-ibid.
I quote these passages because they are relevant to two recent discussions: destiny and Terran spacecraft. For the latter, see Asieneuve and its third link.
Port Frederiksen held Flandry's destiny because, if it had not had an interstellar ship that he could hijack, then he would have had to surrender to the rebels - and would not have won the war for Terra.

Kaor, Paul!
And it was very for the Empire that Hugh McCormac posted that subdestroyer at Port Frederiksen!

I meant it was FORTUNATE for the Empire that McCormac posted that subdestroyer at Port Frederiksen.
