Altaian Night

The two-kilometer-high Prophet's Tower is luminous, like a bloody lance;

the Prophet's words are black on a white wall;

outside the darkened city, camp fires stretch to the horizon;

the two moons, six and eight times as large as Luna, are haloed by ice crystals;

their light illuminates the plains and the two rivers;

the double-banded planetary rings bridge the southern sky with rainbows;

the moons and rings are so bright that varyak riders need no headlights;

every second, meteors enter the atmosphere;

Flandry on a balcony takes minutes to realize that he is cold.

Kaor, Paul!

A chillingly, austerely beautiful description!
