I remember THE LONG WAY HOME! Explorers from Earth returned home thinking they had been gone only a few years, discovering to their horror they had been gone 5,000 years! The drive used by their space ship had not been FTL, but simply worked like an improved version of the zero/zero drive seen in STARFARERS.
And instead of Seladorianism, we see Earth ruled by the Technon, which based its governance on the decisions made by a powerful computer.
