On Falkayn Bay

The People Of The Wind.

The view of Gray and Falkayn Bay:

A View On Avalon
In Gray

The image on "A View Of Avalon" is of a book called Terra gegen Avalon, which looks as if it might mean "A Planet Called Avalon."

The Hesperian Sea is mentioned. We know from "Wingless" that the colonists of both species settled on the Hesperian Islands before moving to the Coronan continent.

We have just seen Ansa defeated by the Empire which now threatens the Lauran System.

Fortunately, having read an account of Arinnian's aerial view of Gray, we go on to read a later account of Tabitha's ground-based view and, unfortunately, the novel ends soon after that.

The second Avalonian city, Centauri, is described in More On Livewell Street.

Paul:
The word "gegen" translates as things such as "against" or "compared to." So "Terra gegen Avalon" is likely to mean "Earth in Conflict with Avalon" or "Earth in Contrast to Avalon."

Kaor, Paul!

From a literary point of view it's interesting to compare or contrast "Sargasso of Lost Starships" with THE PEOPLE OF THE WIND. The differences in the styles or modes of writing evidenced in these two works can hardly be greater! "Sargasso" is very much pulp science fiction with flashes of fantasy with purple language. I could say the story is how a young, beginning writer would work. TPOTW (THE PEOPLE OF THE WIND) shows Anderson's mature and developed style of writing. Much leaner and sparer (but retaining much color and a rich vocabulary).
