Defense Becomes Offense

Poul Anderson, Shield, XVI.

Inside a building, Koskinen, protected by the force-field shield, is surrounded and trapped by armed opponents - until he expands the field, thus crushing his enemies to death against the walls. The field even cracks open the walls and breaks shards from the ceiling. This is a very clever use of the defensive shield as a weapon. Kudos to Poul Anderson for technical neatness. (There was an earlier discussion of potential Applications of the shield.)

Kaor, Paul!

And I wonder if any physicists and engineers who read SHIELD ever wondered if it might be possible to invent a similar shield?
