Poul Anderson, Shield, XIX.
Koskinen and Vivienne hide in her former gang boss, Zigger's, retreat which overlooks a river with steep forest slopes on the other side. From the terrace, lawns and roses slope down the near side. Oak leaves rustle, a fir sighs and a thrush chirps. There is an apple tree and there are a million scents.
Where is Zigger's place? We are told earlier in the novel and I am glancing back but am also about to go out to meditation. It is impossible, while reading, to take a note of everything that might be referred to later. The World War One Commemoration was introduced earlier because Kosiken was going to steal a reconstructed plane later.
We are eighteen pages from the end and Koskinen will solve his problem before we finish.

Kaor, Paul!
Zigger is not the only gang boss we see in the works of Anderson. There's Haguan Eluatz, the Gethfennu boss in "Day of Burning;" Leon Ammon in A CIRCUS OF HELLS; and Sumu the Fat in THE PLAGUE OF MASTERS.
Interesting, to see the role played by criminal bosses in some of Anderson's stories.
