Observations On The Avatar

I have nearly finished rereading Poul Anderson's The Avatar.

Noteworthy:

how much is in the novel;

that the Others share some higher mental abilities with the post-organics in Anderson's Genesis;

how little there is in the novel about the hero, Dan Brodersen;

in fact, the main human interaction is the contrast between the lively Caitlin and the emaciated Joelle;

the Others will enter a new universe with different laws and constants of physics and therefore will have to change themselves accordingly;

Caitlin says that human beings will soon become like the Others;

how likely is it that the only human ship to reach the Others' frontier will have one of their avatars on board?

Kaor, Paul!

I've only reached Chapter XX, but I think we do see plenty about Daniel Brodersen. Enough so that I think of him as the main POV character.

Joelle was not only emaciated but extremely introverted. So much so in both ways that it was easy for me to think she had a Gnostic or Manichaean attitude towards both her body and other human beings.

No, it was not that LIKELY Caitlin would have been in the ship which contacted the Others. Any number of factors or circumstances could have prevented her from being aboard "Chinook."
