An Apology For Absence

Posting on the Religion and Philosophy blog, visiting the monastery and rereading Julian May and Neil Gaiman have eaten into time that would otherwise have been used for posting on Poul Anderson Appreciation. I have just returned from the monastery and will probably post again this evening on that other blog. (I did, here.) My apologies.

My present Poul Anderson agenda is to continue rereading and posting about Shield. Meanwhile, there have been several interesting comments, including here the observation that Martians remained credible in sf until recently. We can still appreciate Martians in now dated sf by many authors and also in the recently introduced category of retro-sf, e.g., by SM Stirling. See here.

Kaor, Paul!

No need to apologize! I see nothing wrong in you taking a break to pursue other interests.

And besides "retro-SF" of the kind seen in books like Stirling's IN THE COURTS OF THE CRIMSON KINGS, the idea or theme of Martians can still be a legitimate in "this universe" science fiction, as we see in Anderson's THE FLEET OF STARS.
