Paul: Some of those subcultures, like the Highlanders and Orcans, seems to have been deliberately standoffish, minimizing contact with the dominant Nord culture. Which Nova Roma did not mind, as long as they made no trouble for the planetary gov't.
Mr. Stirling: I did think of ERB and Barsoom in the combox immediately preceding this one!
