A Circus of Hells, CHAPTER THIRTEEN.
The Flandry series is dominated by the inter-imperial conflict so it is good to read about other kinds of inter-species contact in that period as we have seen with human beings and Merseians. Another example is the Domrath on Talwin:
"No Domrath had shown fear of the Merseians. Being formidable animals, they had never developed either timidity or undue aggressiveness..." (p. 292)
The Merseians bring gifts and only want to observe and study the Domrath. Further:
"...Ydwyr had enforced strict correctness in every dealing with them." (ibid.)
That the Roidhunate is imperialist and supremacist is entirely outside the Domrath's comprehension. So fat at least, such extraplanetary matters need not concern them.

Kaor, Paul!
And Flandry wondered if the Domrath would ever be able to break out of being forced to spend more than half their lives in hibernation (to survive the long, long winters of Talwin)? That need to hibernate was seriously hindering their ability to advance.
Ad astra! Sean
