A Circus of Hells, CHAPTER TWELVE.
Flandry, prisoner and skilled survivor, gives sound advice to his new Merseian master, Ydwyr the Seeker of the Vach Urdiolch, datholch and nephew of the Roidhun, without compromising his own loyalty to Terra. Of course, Flandry will soon escape, taking Ydwyr as a prisoner and valuable hostage. But what of other Terrans captured by Merseians like Ydwyr who is a scientist with only a reserve naval commission? I would be interested to read further accounts of Merseian-human cooperation in this period. The scientific study of the Talwinian planetary environment with its two intelligent species would be a fruitful subject for cooperation. Indeed, at Flandry's suggestion, a joint scientific base is established on Talwin although it is mainly used as a convenient out-of-the-way meeting place for agents of the two rival Intelligence Services. This happens in A Knight of Ghosts and Shadows which is a good travelogue of several planets, both old and new.

Kaor, Paul!
Well, Ydwyr and Morioch were both convinced Flandry would not escape. Also, Ydwyr was shrewd enough to deduce Flandry's advice was also meant to persuade the Merseians not to take any quick action against Leon Ammon. To leave open his own personal options!
In addition that joint scientific base suggested later by Flandry was to make sure Talwin could not be used again for hostile actions against the Empire. Ydwyr was only able to get funding for his base if Merseian Intelligence would also use it.
Ad astra! Sean
