The Problem of Evil
Why does God allow moral evil?
Christianity: free will.
The Ythrian New Faith: "'...so we may win honor by fighting for the right.'" (p. 47)
The Problem of Pain
Why does God allow undeserved, pointless agony?
Christianity: ?
The New Faith: our noblest moment is when we honor God the Hunter by giving Him a good fight.
No problem if we do not believe in God.
Peter Berg accepts the Christian answer to the first question but thinks that the New Faith answer to the second "'...seems better.'" (ibid.)

Kaor, Paul!
And I disagree with Peter Berg. The thought I had being that, by accepting an agonizing death on the Cross, God Himself, in his Son, proved willing to be like man in all ways possible. In this case, pain and suffering. Which does not mean we have to suffer pain needlessly if there are ways of preventing or deadening it.
I think C.S. Lewis wrote a whole book discussing this issue.

The cover of an edition of Lewis's THE PROBLEM OF PAIN is on the recent post, "Contemporary And Historical Accounts."
