Hloch's Enhancements

Hloch considerably enhances the information provided by stories that he introduces in the Earth Book. He tells us:

the name of the narrator of "Wings of Victory";

where James Ching wound up;

that some of Emil Dalmady's children came to Avalon with Falkayn and that one of them wrote Dalmady's story in the periodical, Morgana;

how the stories of Falkayn on Merseia and of van Rijn at Mirkheim came to light;

more than this but those are the main points that I can think of at this time of night.

Hloch's twelve introductions and single afterword are significant additions to the Technic History. Thus, the Earth Book does more than merely collect these twelve installments. It was important that Hloch's contributions were preserved in The Technic Civilization Saga.

Kaor, Paul!

And another way of introducing stories or the chapter of a novel would be by means of quotes from fictional reference works, as Asimov did with those extracts from the ENCYCLOPEDIA GALACTICA for his FOUNDATION books. Or Stirling's quotes from a fictional edition of the ENCYCLOPAEDIA BRITANNICA for his two Lords of Creation books.

Sean,

And that also adds to the information in the stories.

It does! And think I sometimes enjoyed those quotes from the ENCYCLOPEDIA GALACTICA more than I did a story I came to find disappointing and unsatisfactory.
