Ad Astra II

Nine More Spacefaring Heroes

In The Technic History

The first time we see Nicholas van Rijn, he is already old and rich enough to retire but prefers to remain active.

The first time we see David Falkayn, he is apprenticed to Master Polesotechnician Martin Schuster and they are on the planet Ivanhoe.

The only time we see Juan Hernandez, he is apprenticed to Master Trader Thomas Overbeck and they are on Ivanhoe but later and on a different continent.

The only time we see Emil Dalmady, he is the Solar Spice & Liquors factor on Suleiman but van Rijn promotes him to entrepreneur.

The only time we see Philippe Rochefort, he is a Lieutenant in the Terran Space Navy.

The first time we see Dominic Flandry, he is an Ensign in the Terran Space Navy.

Flandry's friend, Ensign Jan van Zuyl is killed in action on Starkad.

In Another Timeline

A veteran of the Martian war of 3890 teaches in the Time Patrol Academy in the Oligocene period.

Epsilon Korten, director of Jerusalem Base between the birth of David and the Fall of Judah, was born in the twenty-ninth century in New Edom on Mars and recruited by the Time Patrol both because of his computer analyses of early Semitic texts and because of his exploits as a spaceman during the Second Asteroid War.

Kaor, Paul!

More exactly, we first see Flandry when he was in the Naval Flight Corps of the Imperial Navy. But, as we know, he soon transferred to the Intelligence Corps.

I remember that about Ensign van Zuyl! Flandry had mentioned how his buddy could hope for a forty or fifty years career in the Navy, only to be told "very softly" by Admiral Enriques that van Zuyl had been killed in action a few days before.
