"Briar Patch."
Two questions about this story:
if Locklear found female kzinti about to speak in the kzinti compound on Zoo, then what will he find in the human compound? (the point being that the compounds were stocked a very long time ago);
the title suggests that maybe the story shares a theme with one installment of Poul Anderson's Psychotechnic History?
I will know the answer to the second question when I have read the story in full. Meanwhile, I have become interested in pursuing some questions about Anderson's Time Patrol.

Meaning any "human" females Locklear finds might not be what he hopes to find. Either incomprehensibly "advanced" or pre-human hominids.
And "Briar Patch" reminded me as well of that story from Psychotechnic series. It's more likely than not, however, that Ing had nothing directly Andersonian in mind.
