Operation Luna: Miscellaneous III

Operation Luna.

Steve Matuchek starred in a version of The Hound Of The Baskervilles, the most filmed book, and also as "...Tom Spurr's faithful companion." (18, p. 162) But who is Tom Spurr?

Steve describes Bob Shining Knife as his "...quondam pal..." (p. 162) I had not encountered "quondam" in English before and Wiktionary says that it is borrowed from Latin.

"HIC IACET ARTHURUS, REX QUONDAM REXQUE FUTURUS."
-see Arthur And Grallon.

"'The old firm!' I whooped. 'Matuchek and Matuckek, confounders of the ungodly, rescuers of the afflicted, we also walk dogs. Yahoo!'" (19, p. 166)

Sf fans will recognize the title of a short story in Robert Heinlein's Future History. See here.

There are some references to "highbinder," e.g., on p. 168. Although I try to be thorough, I sometimes stop short of googling and posting about every unfamiliar term used but read Anderson with a good dictionary.

Kaor, Paul!

I remember that bit about Tom Spurr, and wondered who it was! Albeit, I admit to not being curious enough to google for it. And I think I did recall Heinlein's "We Also Walk Dogs." A nice inside SFnal touch.

Ad astra! Sean
