In the Waybreak tineran camp, King Samlo's (scroll down):
"...garb was white, more clean than one would have though possible here." (5, pp. 111-112)
That is how Jesus is shown in Bible story books. A vicar pointed out to me how unrealistic that was.
An authentic film of The Day Of Their Return would have to show Samlo's remarkably clean white garb but would also have to explain such unexpected cleanliness in order to avoid the charge of implausibility. Anderson's omniscient narrator does not explain it.
I have not remarked on this point before but am carefully seeking out new details to post about. If we look for more in a Poul Anderson text, we usually find it.

Yes, you are right, Our Lord's everyday apparel was not likely to be white. Clothes like were quite costly, I believe. Christ probably wore earth colored tunics and cloaks, which were cheaper than bright colored clothes using costly dyes.
