Poul Anderson, Tau Zero, CHAPTER 17.
There is too little matter for the Bussard jet to work so the ship proceeds on its already existing trajectory towards a clan estimated to be three hundred million light years from home. The crew must endure free fall which makes physical work difficult and tiring. They expect to reach the fringes of the clan in a week but have no way to know what will happen then.

Kaor, Paul!
And of course readers of Poul Anderson will know that prolonged free fall will cause serious health problems, such as loss of bone density. But a standard Earth week in free fall should be tolerable and not cause too much damage.
