"Maybe the sense of evanescence, this warmth and light and savor no more than a moment in an unbounded darkness, something that could come to never having been, gave depth to pleasure."
-Poul Anderson, "Star Of The Sea" IN Anderson, Time Patrol (Riverdale, NY, 2010), pp. 467-640 AT p. 522.
In another millennium of another timeline, a travel sled, thickly padded to keep out the cold, is heated by a ceramic stove and lit by an alcohol lantern and is:
"...an oasis of warmth and light in the vast white-black emptiness around them..."
-SM Stirling, Snowbrother (New York, 1985), Chapter 11, p. 158.
Savor fills the sled:
bubbling wheat porridge with maple syrup and nuts;
grilled bacon;
toasted bread;
heated milk with sugar, vanilla and cinnamon.
The bacon is eaten in a toasted sandwich with pickled tomatoes.
Thus, an evening meal in one timeline and breakfast in another.

Kaor, Paul!
Now that interests me, a travel SLED. I've reached Chapter 7 of SNOWBROTHER and I'm starting to get the glimmer of an idea WHAT the "snowbrother" is, but I'll keep mum, I might be wrong! (Smiles)
