We often find the Milky Way (see also Across The Milky Way) in Poul Anderson's Technic History so we appreciate its appearance in his Time Patrol series:
"Coolness descended from stars and Milky Way."

And I've read Stirling's THE PESHAWAR LANCERS no less than three times! And I will quite likely read it again, which shows how highly i regard that book.

Note: city-dwellers really don't appreciate how -bright- the night sky can be in a place with no light pollution, particularly in a dry climate.
