I recall one stop where Martin Saunders was told a ruling quasi-theocracy tinkered with our BC/AD era dating dating by adding three or four more years AD. To bring the birth of Christ closer to the correct date.
Truthfully, they were correct. Denis the Short, who invented our BC/AD era dating system, did err in his calculations of when Christ was born. The Messiah was most likely born in what we call 5 BC.
