Integration

Searching this blog for the term, "unintegrate," shows that a single theme runs through Poul Anderson's Psychotechnic History but is not fully developed. In early installments, the Psychotechnic Institute (not League!) sets out to remake human society and psychology but is overthrown and outlawed and indeed is corrupted by its attempt to regain power. However, psychotechnicians continue to be employed, a distinction is made between the "integrate" and the "unintegrate" and psychotechnicians lead in the eventual Galactic civilization. A revised Psychotechnic History could have given these issues centre stage instead of relegating them to the background in later instalments.

With the house to myself, I have sat too long over Poul Anderson Appreciation but must now venture out on other errands.

The sun shines here and I hope elsewhere.

Kaor, Paul!

It bears stressing that Anderson moved away from notions about "integration" because he obviously became skeptical about them. Indeed he became dissatisfied with the entire Psychotechnic series and its premises.

Ad astra! Sean
