Conflicts Then And Now
On my computer screen right now are images and reports of contemporary destruction while, lying beside the computer, are sf novels, due to be reread, describing future conflicts. Our present conflicts are history to the characters in those novels. Reality and fiction become a continuum. Contemporaries of Dominic Flandry studying the period of the Chaos will have access to reports of killings happening today, 15 October, 2026. Or not quite our 15 October. We must have diverged from the Technic History by now. "The Saturn Game" is only twenty-nine years away. But we are still in a very close parallel timeline. The issues are similar whether we read about the twenty-first century (now) or the thirty-first (fiction). We read fiction for escape from reality and for reflection of it.

Kaor, Paul!
We live in a Contending States era, analogous to the anarchy China suffered as the Chou Dynasty declined after 771 BC. It will last till either a single power, or an alliance of powers, emerges victorious.
Ad astra! Sean
