Early Technic History Connections

The People Of The Wind, IX.

When Rochefort and Helu crash land on an island in an Avalonian archipelago, they are landing on a planetary surface that was explored in "The Problem of Pain" and colonized in two stages in "Wingless" and "Rescue on Avalon." They serve the Terran Empire which was proclaimed in "The Star Plunderer" and which annexed Ansa in "Sargasso of Lost Starships." They are at war with Ythri which was first contacted in "Wings of Victory." Helu is killed by Draun but Rochefort is protected by Tabitha Falkayn, a descendant of both Nicholas van Rijn and David Falkayn who, separately or together, had appeared in a total of eleven previous episodes.

This summary connects eighteen instalments of the early Technic History but in no way exhausts its richness.

Kaor, Paul!

But there are big gaps in our knowledge of Technic Civilization. I think it took about a century for the Polesotechnic League to utterly collapse. We know hardly anything about that century or the additional near century of the Time of Troubles. To say nothing of the early history of the Empire before THE PEOPLE OF THE WIND, or the following two centuries and more before ENSIGN FLANDRY.

Big gaps, alas! I would have loved some Tolkienian appendices to the Flandry books.

Ad astra! Sean
