Audentes Fortuna Iuvat

The People Of The Wind, XI.

Phillipe Rochefort is one lucky guy:

in the Imperial attack on Avalon, he loses his boat and his two crew although he himself survives unharmed;

as a prisoner of war, he is treated honorably;

in fact, he becomes a house guest of Tabitha Falkayn and begins a relationship with her;

he escapes - there is more than this going on behind the scenes but, nevertheless, he escapes;

he is wined and dined by Admiral Cajal;

he gets what he wants, to be included in the attack on the Avalonian surface;

he survives that also, disaster though it is for the Imperials.

One of the most peaceful scenes not only in this novel but in the entire Technic History is Phil and Tabitha sailing to see atlantis weed and, hopefully also, a kraken.

Kaor, Paul!

We see something similar in THE GAME OF EMPIRE, on the planet Daedalus. A high ranking captured Merseian Navy officer was also treated honorably by the Imperials, with merely a gentle house arrest.

Ad astra! Sean
