Hunkered in the Ythrians' thwartless boat, Nat Falkayn sees water swirl, hears it hiss, feels the boat's speed and tastes salt.
All three are able to fly straight up, the Ythrians with wings, Nat with his gravbelt, but Nat, unencumbered by feathers, can also swim and therefore is able to disentangle Keshchyi from the atlantis weed that wrecks the boat and catches his wing. Nat and Thuriak then lift the battered Keshchyi to shore.
Outcomes:
Keshchyi stops acting superior;
Nat appreciates that, although he cannot soar and swoop like the Ythrians, he can swim which they cannot.
A joint colony combines skills.

Kaor, Paul!
And a mixed species colony needs to develop mutual tolerance if its to have any chance of working.
Ad astra! Sean
