Wars

In Mirkheim, there is war between the Solar Commonwealth and the planet Babur.

In The People Of The Wind, there is war between the Terran Empire and the Domain of Ythri.

In the nine-volume Flandry period, there are occasional hostilities between the Terran Empire and the Merseian Roidhunate and also Terran civil wars.

All sounds much the same? But it is not. Commonwealth and Empire are very different. Earlier and later phases of the Empire are very different. Baburites, Ythrians and Merseians are very different. Which side we support changes. We support the Empire against the Roidhunate but, before that, we supported the planet Avalon fighting to remain within the Domain and, before that, we supported the independent League companies and Free Hermes against both Commonwealth and Baburites.

History is complicated. Poul Anderson's Technic History is authentic fictional history.

Kaor, Paul!

I agree, Anderson presents us with a fictional history that feels real and lived in. And, I would probably have supported either the Empire or Avalon/Domain if I had been a citizen of one or the other.

Ad astra! Sean
