Murdoch's Scheme And Niobe

"The Pirate," p. 156.

How plausible is Murdoch Juan's scheme to settle colonists in the emptied buildings on Good Luck? Trevelyan hypothesizes that Murdoch will:

remove the disturbing pictures, books etc;
clean and patch the furnishings;
put padding over furniture and floors;
restore the water supply;
use existing oil lanterns for lighting;
install camp stoves since the deceased inhabitants had not cooked food;
install power, enabling colonists to change the place further.

Would this suffice?

Further down the same page is a reference to Niobe. I could not remember whether this reference was Biblical or classical. However, I find that I already have linked to the relevant Wikipedia article both in 2015 and in 2017! Maybe I should just reread the blog instead of adding to it?

Kaor, Paul!

I think, given the conditions laid down by Anderson in "The Pirate," Murdoch's scheme could work, once he had enough colonists settled on Good Luck willing to fight for their new homes that the Cordies would not think it wise to wreck his plans.

and the extinct original inhabitants did not cook or process their food? Their digestive systems would have to be very different from ours!

Ad astra! Sean
