Zunis And Asians

Operation Luna, 8.

Steve and Valeria Matuchek visit Zuni:

"It stirred my heart to hear one man cry, 'Hello, there, Dr. Matuchek. Ginny waved back.
"Well, from the beginning of our New Mexico stay she'd taken a special interest in them." (p. 78)

This corresponds to Sheila's and my relationship to Lancaster Asians. She taught English to so many of them for so long that complete strangers ask me, "How's Sheila?"

When an acquaintance asked me whether then recent world events had caused any racial tension on our street, I replied, "No." Of course, this was a rhetorical question based on her assumptions. Not satisfied with my answer, she put the same question to Sheila, only to receive the reply, "I don't know because I don't know the white people!"

Kaor, Paul!

And I first KNEW of the Zunis only from reading OPERATION LUNA. And not the same tribe as the Hopis.

Ad astra! Sean
