Satan's World.
Van Rijn refers to "'...circlestances...'" (p. 403)
The members of the original trade pioneer crew stand very high in van Rijn's estimation. Chee Lan refuses to obey a direct order while addressing him in the most derogatory terms of which the mildest is "'...you fat pirate...'" (ibid.) Van Rijn, addressing her as "'...my furry friendling...,'"(ibid.) patiently explains the reason for his order. Serendipity, Inc. has broken so many laws that they must be playing for something bigger than money so it is a matter of urgency to find out what. Chee Lan must not rush the drugged Falkayn to a hospital but must instead treat him on board while hastening to find the prize that Serendipity is after. Chee hears and accepts. Van Rijn is a good leader and Chee Lan is a good team member. Each is a personality but that is not allowed to get in the way of the task at hand. Maybe we begin to understand why "...the series became study material for a graduate seminar in management!" ("Lodestar," AFTERWORD, p. 681)

Kaor, Paul!
The question that occurred to me was to wonder if, strictly speaking, Chee Lan was trained and qualified for reversing the brain conditioning of Falkayn. The fact she wanted to take him to a hospital suggests that possibility. Fortunately, she was able to treat Falkayn.
