In The Earth Book

Of the twelve works collected in The Earth Book Of Stormgate, six form three pairs:

the first and second, "Wings of Victory" and "The Problem of Pain," describe early contacts with Ythrians;

the eleventh and twelfth, "Wingless" and "Rescue on Avalon," are juvenile adventure short stories recounting human-Ythrian interactions in early days on Avalon;

the ninth and tenth, "Day of Burning" and "Lodestar," recount David Falkyn's previously undisclosed dealings with Merseia and Mirkheim, respectively - both were composed by Hloch and Arinnian based on records left by van Rijn and Falkayn on Hermes. ("Lodestar" also features Ythrians.)

In The Technic Civilization Saga, "The Master Key," Satan's World and "A Little Knowledge" come between "Day of Burning" and "Lodestar." Thus, Hloch's interstitial commentary referring to the records left on Hermes is interrupted. Hloch's introduction to "Wingless" begins by summarizing Mirkheim. This becomes unnecessary in the Saga since the entire text of Mirkheim has been inserted between "Lodestar" and "Wingless."

A student of the Technic History needs to be familiar with both versions.

Kaor, Paul!

You meant to say records dealing with Falkayn's visit to Merseia and the Mirkheim affair were left on Hermes by van Rijn and Falkayn, not Arinnian.
