Additionally, the surviving cruiser is badly damaged and, when Gahood flees home, Muddlin' Through is able to follow him because Chee Lan has extracted the coordinates of Gahood's home system from his captured assistant's brain.

And Gahood's disaster bears out a point Anderson has made many times: computers and the machines they manage are only as good as the programs they were installed with. They tend to be rigid and unable to adapt to CHANGING circumstances, unlike living beings.
