See "Time Travel Is Sometimes Very Annoying But Not Always," here, on the Logic of Time Travel blog. I could just copy the whole article to this blog and I might do that but I am trying to encourage readers of one blog to read others.
In the above article, I:
summarize John C. Wright's discussion of Heinlein's "By His Bootstraps";
disagree with Wright;
discuss the philosophical question of free will;
contrast Poul Anderson's There Will Be Time with the Heinlein story.
Thus, the article is not primarily about Anderson. I will continue to discuss Wright's article on the appropriate blog and will probably also continue to advertise that discussion here.
Fair winds forever.
High is heaven and holy.
Glory to the Emperor but not to the Draka.

Kaor, Paul!
I would rather give that glory to Emperor Georgios or Emperor Hans, and not to any of the Draka!
