For the various environments visited by members of the Leonora Christine crew in Poul Anderson's Tau Zero, see "Cosmic Environments In Tau Zero," here.
The most unusual of these environments are:
the Millegarden, where we imagine that the statues come to life;
inter-clan space, where nothing can happen - except the passage of a relativistic spaceship;
the hydrogen envelope surrounding the forming monobloc, where survival should surely be impossible;
the small, early universe, where the crew of a time dilated spaceship can, within very broad limits, decide in which galaxy and in which era they will come to rest.
Tau Zero presents more varied cosmic environments than any other work by Anderson.

Kaor, Paul!
I agree that, objectively speaking, it is not likely that any ship "near" the hydrogen envelope of the monobloc of a new universe would be likely to survive.
