The Paleotechnic Era II

"[Wayfarer] cared more about the life [on Earth]. Epoch after epoch, Gaia had described its posthuman evolution as she watched. Following the mass extinction of the Paleotechnic, it had regained the abundance and diversity of a Cretaceous or a Tertiary."
-Poul Anderson, Genesis (New York, 2001), Part Two, III, pp. 128-129.

I am realizing that, despite its similarity to his "Psychotechnic," "paleotechnic" was not coined by Poul Anderson. However, it has two meanings, relating either to modern technology (here) or to ancient art (here).

I had been surprised to find "-technic" incorporated into the name of a geological era but obviously it had to be. However, in Genesis, the Paleotechnic ends with humanity. Although the galactic nodes are the summit of technology, they no longer affect Terrestrial ecology - until, a very long time later, Gaia reintroduces humanity and other nodes wonder whether to save Terrestrial life from extinction.

Kaor, Paul!

And my preferred view would be that the other nodes of AI superintelligence should not intervene, that the human race Gaia brought back from extinction should be allowed to find or not find the means of saving the human race and life on Earth.
