Time Patrolman And Time Patrolwoman

There might be another way to distribute the installments of Poul Anderson's Time Patrol series appropriately between two omnibus collections. See here.

Volume I would of course begin with "Time Patrol" which in turn begins with Manse Everard's recruitment to the Time Patrol. Volume II would begin with "The Year Of The Ransom" which ends with Wanda Tamberly's recruitment to the Patrol. Thus:

everything about Wanda would appear in Vol II;
the entire war against the Exaltationsts would also be collected together in Vol II;
Vol I, covering Everard's pre-Wanda and pre-Exaltationists Patrol career, would end with "Star of the Sea."

In "Star of the Sea," Everard and Janne Floris begin and end their brief affair and Everard says that he does not know what will happen next. We know that he will meet Wanda later that same year because Anderson carefully wrote "Star of the Sea" to fit between "The Sorrow of Odin the Goth" and "The Year of the Ransom."

Thus, there could be two omnibus collections to be sub-titled Time Patrolman and Time Patrolwoman.

Kaor, Paul!

I like your original suggestion better, the first of two volumes collecting the Time Patrol stories should have all the shorter works except "Death And The Knight." The second volume should have THE SHIELD OF TIME and then "Death And The Knight."
