Crises

Art reflects life. It is much easier to sit in an armchair and read about times of crisis than to live in such a time but we are doing both. Why do I blog about science fiction instead of discussing urgent issues?

Because:

(i) plenty of people do the latter;

(ii) sf addresses the issues - although at a remove;

(iii) social life and cultural activities continue until they are overwhelmed by the struggle for survival.

How many people are now struggling for survival against human-caused disasters? Poul Anderson's Technic History begins after the Chaos. We are living in it.

Kaor, Paul!

I certainly agree we are living in a Time of Chaos! And I see no foreseeable end to the Chaos. Nor do I agree that many of the solutions proposed for our woes are desirable and workable. And I also believe that the only REAL way of making our current problems at least irrelevant will be by getting OFF this rock and developing the resources and possibilities of the Solar System.

Ad astra! Sean
